The Best Modest Dress Brands (Ethical & High-Quality Options)

Over the past year and a half, I’ve been on a mission to dress more modestly and to wear more dresses and skirts. Surprisingly, finding modest dresses that aren’t made in sweatshops or mass-produced for brands like Amazon or SHEIN has been much harder than I expected.

After months of research, I’ve put together a list of wonderful places to shop for modest dresses — and in some cases, other clothing items for yourself or your daughter. My hope is that this saves you the time, frustration, and trial-and-error I went through while searching for brands with ethical business practices and high-quality pieces.

These are in no particular order. Happy shopping!

1. SUPER CUTE DRESSES — Seemingly endless options. They have something for the whole entire family.

   Price Range: about $48–$150

   

2. LINEN NAIVE — so many amazing options, especially if you have a larger budget. The style is very romantic and old world. Which I personally love.

   Price Range: about $109–$259

   

3. PKC COLLECTION — ok, this might be my favorite place to daydream about owning almost every single dress on their site! I just love their styles!

   Price Range: about $78–$139

   

4. POPPY JOY DRESSES — not a lot of options. They simple and they seem flattering, they also have plenty of dress options for children.

   Price Range: about $38–$72

   

5. INHERIT CO. — they have a ton of cute options, and modesty is at the center of their mission.

   Price Range: about $40–$98

   

6. PETAL LUSH — soooo many cute options and very reasonably priced compared to a lot of the other brands on this list.

   Price Range: about $35–$90

   

7. POET DRESSES — a decent variety of modest dresses, at a wide range of prices. This is also a proudly proudly Christian brand.

   Price Range: about $80–$125+

   

8. ROOLEE — a decent variety of dresses at a mid-range price. I could see a decent portion of my dress wardrobe coming from here.

   Price Range: about $50–$112

   

9. SIMPLE RETRO — another nice low/mid-range priced brand with a decent selection.

   Price Range: about $39.99–$95

   

10. CHRISTY DAWN (REGENERATES) — a VERY large variety of beautiful dresses. Some modest and some not. You have to scroll thru their online catalogue to see which styles align with your convictions. This is a dedicated section of the Christy Dawn website, focused on reselling gently used Christy Dawn pieces, giving their dresses a second life through reuse rather than waste.     Price Range: about $79–$300+

    

11. CATHOLIC DRESS CO — I’ve never shopped here, but I’ve heard several women talk about this brand in Catholic and Protestant Facebook groups. I’ve browsed and noticed a handful of dresses that I really, really like, but overall they aren’t my style.

    Price Range: about $32.99–$44.99

    

12. RED DRESS BOUTIQUE — I’d say a decent amount of their dresses aren’t modest, but the ones that are, are extremely cute! They also let you filter and shop by “Sunday’s Best,” which is super helpful!

    Price Range: about $50–$250+

    

13. LOVE OLIVE CO — this is a Mormon-owned brand (I am NOT Mormon). I mention this only because some people care about these types of things when they are shopping. If that’s you, skip this brand.

    Price Range: about $68–$94

    

14. DAINTY JEWELLS — I really like this brand. They have a plethora of timeless pieces to choose from and every single dress is not only modest but oh so cute!

    Price Range: about $100–$200+

    

15. CALLED TO SURF — I found this brand later in my search but I’m so, so glad that I did. I hope to eventually add a few of their pieces to my dress collection at some point.

    Price Range: about $60–$120+

    

16. BALTIC BORN — I almost forgot to include this brand but it came to me a day after I published this post. The modesty factor is hit or miss here BUT with almost 1400 dresses to choose from, even if only 25% are modest styles, that’s still 350 dresses to choose from! The price point is also right on the money! Pun intended.

    Price Range: about $39-$115+

    

17. IVY CITY — tons of dresses to choose from (well over 200) and plenty of modest options (I’d say about half). This site is definitely worth browsing, especially if you’re looking for a good sale, as their prices drop significantly during sales — as you’ll see reflected in the price range below.

    Price Range: about $19.99-$248

    

18. INDY & CO — I recently learned about this brand and when I browsed their dresses, I was very pleased with their broad range of modest options. I highly suggest browsing their shop.

Price Range: $28.99-$82

Bonus: You can always thrift or buy secondhand. I have several friends who find the best pieces and amazing prices this way, and it’s also very eco-friendly. Personally, I’ve tried MANY times and always walk out empty-handed, but I know it works really well for others.
